“The creation of over one crore ABHAs signals rapid adoption of digital health infrastructure, driving a shift toward technology-driven, integrated healthcare services.

”Jammu and Kashmir has recently achieved a remarkable milestone in the field of digital healthcare, generating over 1.05 crore Ayushman Bharat Health Accounts (ABHAs) under the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM). This landmark achievement highlights the Union Territory’s commitment to leveraging technology to transform healthcare delivery and ensure seamless access to quality medical services for all citizens. The creation of more than one crore ABHAs in a relatively short span reflects the rapid adoption of digital health infrastructure across the region. It underscores a broader shift toward technology-driven, integrated healthcare services, where digital platforms play a pivotal role in connecting patients, healthcare providers, and administrative systems efficiently. Such progress places the Union Territory at the forefront of digital healthcare adoption in the country, alongside advancements in digital payments and public service delivery. Since the national launch of the ABDM in 2021 and its subsequent rollout in the Union Territory in 2022, the mission has gained impressive momentum. The initiative aims to establish a robust, nationwide digital health ecosystem, linking hospitals, clinics, pharmacies, laboratories, and healthcare professionals. This integration facilitates streamlined service delivery, evidence-based treatment, and improved healthcare management for citizens. In September 2025 alone, over 7.5 lakh ABHA cards were generated in the region, reflecting strong grassroots acceptance and engagement. A significant aspect of this digital transformation is the complete registration of public health professionals, hospitals, and private health facilities in the region. This comprehensive digital mapping ensures that all stakeholders in the healthcare ecosystem are connected, promoting transparency and efficiency. The “Scan & Share” service has further revolutionized patient experience by enabling OPD-based token generation through simple QR code scans.

“Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) is leading a paradigm shift in healthcare by effectively leveraging technology under the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission. The core message is that J&K is setting a national benchmark for digital-first, patient-centric healthcare, proving technology’s power to transform patient access and service efficiency.”

Patients can now book appointments and access hospital services from the comfort of their homes, significantly reducing wait times and enhancing convenience. Equally impressive is the linking of over 90 lakh Electronic Medical Records (EMRs) to citizens’ ABHA IDs. Through the Personal Health Record (PHR) app, patients can now view their complete medical history, facilitating informed decision-making and continuous care. This paperless, integrated system ensures faster claims processing, price transparency, and better follow-up, bridging critical gaps in remote consultation and treatment. The Union Territory’s efforts have not gone unnoticed. Recognition at the national level through awards celebrating digital healthcare achievements validates the region’s approach to modernizing medical services. The success of the ABDM initiative is a testament to the active participation of healthcare workers, allied staff, and other professionals who have ensured smooth implementation and adoption. By embracing digital innovation, Jammu and Kashmir is not only strengthening healthcare infrastructure but also setting a benchmark for other states and regions to emulate. The achievements under the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission demonstrate how technology, when harnessed effectively, can transform patient access, improve service efficiency, and foster a future-ready healthcare ecosystem. This milestone is more than a numerical accomplishment—it signals a paradigm shift in healthcare delivery, positioning the Union Territory as a leader in the journey toward digital-first, patient-centric healthcare.
