Srinagar | : Police on Thursday conducted a special inspection drive targeting SIM card vendors in Budgam and Awantipora to enhance internal security and prevent the misuse of mobile communication services.

The initiative involved thorough checks by police teams at various locations, focusing on compliance with Know Your Customer (KYC) regulations and the verification of documents required for SIM issuance. The inspections aimed to ensure that no SIM cards are activated without valid identification and address proof. During the inspections, vendors were educated on their vital role in safeguarding communication networks from unlawful activities. They received strict instructions to comply with KYC norms and were warned of severe consequences, including potential license cancellation and prosecution, for any violations or negligence. The J&K Police also asked people to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities, fake documentation, or irregularities related to SIM issuance. Reiterating a zero-tolerance policy Police said that such inspection drives will be conducted regularly to maintain a secure and accountable communication environment throughout the region.
