Srinagar | : The Mantaqi Centre for Science & Society (MCSS) at the Islamic University of Science & Technology (IUST) hosted a session led by Prof. Zeba Farooqi, Head of the Environmental Biomonitoring Research Unit at De La Salle University, focusing on an integrated approach to environmental biomonitoring in South and South-East Asia.
Prof. Farooqi addressed critical issues related to e-waste and metal pollution in the Philippines, drawing comparisons to contamination challenges faced in the Kashmir Valley. She emphasized the pressing need for comprehensive monitoring strategies to effectively tackle pollution, biodiversity loss, and associated public health risks. The session was inaugurated by Prof. Mir Javid, a Professor of Practice, who highlighted the importance of biomonitoring in addressing environmental issues within the region. The event attracted a diverse audience, including department heads, faculty members, scholars, and students, underscoring the collective interest in advancing research and solutions for environmental challenges.
