Srinagar | : Police on Wednesday conducted a comprehensive verification drive of SIM vendors operating within the jurisdiction of Sub Division Uri under the supervision of SDPO Uri. The verification exercise covered all Police Stations and Police Posts, including PSs Uri, Boniyar, Bijhama, and PPs Kamalkote and Uroosa.
According to a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar during a drive, Station House Officers (SHOs) and Police Post In-charges conducted inspections to ensure compliance with the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) guidelines regarding SIM issuance. The inspections focused on verifying that SIM vendors maintained proper customer verification records, had functioning CCTV systems, and adhered to biometric authentication procedures. Most vendors were found to be compliant with the necessary documentation and norms. However, they were cautioned to strictly follow Know Your Customer (KYC) procedures and to submit required documents to telecom service providers in a timely manner. Additionally, vendors were instructed to keep hard copies of Aadhaar and customer photographs as part of their records. The inspections also served to educate all SIM vendors about the legal consequences of negligence in the verification process. They were warned that any failure to comply with DoT regulations would result in strict legal action.
