DC Rajouri reviews progress of JJM, Jal Shakti Abhiyan 2.0

Abhishek directs rain water conservation, convergence , timely execution of Works

Rajouri | :  Deputy Commissioner Rajouri Abhishek Sharma Wednesday chaired a review meeting here in the Video Conference Hall of the DC Office to assess the progress of Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) and Jal Shakti Abhiyan: Catch the Rain (JSJB 2.0) Rajouri.

While reviewing the implementation of JJM schemes, the Deputy Commissioner directed the concerned departments to expedite the pace of ongoing works and ensure their timely completion so that the benefits of safe and adequate drinking water reach every household.

The meeting also reviewed the progress under Jal Sanchay Jan Bhagidari (JSJB 2.0), with special focus on the creation of rainwater harvesting structures, diversion channels; construction of soakage pits, injection wells near hand pumps, percolation tanks and check dams to promote sustainable management of water resources. The DC emphasized that rainwater harvesting tanks must be mandatorily constructed in newly built structures, including PMAY houses and urban areas, to strengthen water conservation efforts at the grassroots level.

Highlighting the importance of spring rejuvenation and water source protection, the Deputy Commissioner called for focused measures to conserve riverine and spring ecosyste He also directed the concerned officers to develop contour trenches and check dams to enhance groundwater recharge and prevent soil erosion.

Stressing the linkage between water conservation and livelihood generation, the DC urged departments including RDD, Forest, Fisheries and Agriculture to work in convergence mode. He further suggested the promotion of fisheries and allied activities in suitable water bodies and directed the use of Self Help Groups (SHGs) to strengthen local livelihood opportunities and sustainable resource utilization.

The Deputy Commissioner urged all departments to work in close coordination and adopt innovative, eco-friendly measures to ensure the successful implementation of JJM and Jal Shakti Abhiyan 2.0 in the district.

The meeting was attended by SE PWD, Tilak Raj; CPO, Maqsood Ahmed; ACP, Sheraz Chouhan; ACD, Auqil Naveed; DFO Nowshera,  Shweta; DFO Rajouri; Ex. En PMGSY; Ex. En PHE Nowshera & Rajouri, besides other district and sectoral officers.
