Chairman JNPA interacts with journalists; highlights port’s role in strengthening India’s maritime trade
Mumbai | Oct, 6: The PIB J&K Media Tour to Mumbai commenced on Monday with an interaction between the Chairman of the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA), Unmesh Sharad Wagh, and a delegation of 14 journalists from Jammu and Kashmir, led by Neha Jalali, Director PIB Jammu.
The event, organized by the Press Information Bureau, marks the first engagement of the five-day tour aimed at enhancing the understanding of national development efforts among regional media. During the meeting at JNPA headquarters, Shri Wagh highlighted the port’s critical role in bolstering India’s maritime trade and logistics efficiency. He discussed various modernization initiatives and developmental projects that aim to improve connectivity and trade facilitation, emphasizing JNPA’s status as India’s leading container-handling port and its contribution to national economic growth through advanced infrastructure and logistics solutions. The interaction is particularly relevant for Jammu and Kashmir, where the economy significantly depends on the transportation of goods such as handicrafts, dry fruits, and horticultural products to domestic and international markets. Improved port infrastructure and trade connectivity are essential for enhancing the export potential of these products and integrating local businesses into global value chains. Additionally, the media delegation received a briefing from senior JNPA officials, including Ambika Singh, who provided insights into the port’s operations, digitalization efforts, and clean energy initiatives. She also discussed upcoming projects, notably the Vadhvan Port Project, which is expected to be completed by 2030 following its foundation stone laying by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
