Bureaucratic Veterans Attend The Key Meet, Shahid Rasool Of CUK Delivers Lecture

Srinagar | Oct, 6: The Indian Institute of Public Administration (IIPA), J&K Regional Branch, in collaboration with the Amar Singh Club, held the 15th Sat Paul Sahni Memorial Lecture honoring the legacy of the distinguished journalist and former Director General Information, Sat Paul Sahni.  The event was mainly attended by Dr. G N Qasba, Vice Chairman of IIPA J&K, and Khurshid Ahmad Ganai, IAS (Retd.), as the Chief Guest. The lecture was delivered by Professor (Dr.) Shahid Rasool, Dean of Academic Affairs at the Central University of Kashmir.

In his welcome address, the chairperson celebrated Sahni’s remarkable life, detailing his extensive career that began in 1948 with The Times of India and included significant roles as Bureau Chief for United News of India and Director General Information in Jammu and Kashmir. Sahni’s contributions spanned over six decades, during which he reported on four major wars and documented pivotal events in Kashmir and India. His legacy includes a collection of rare photographs, notably the posthumously published “Nehru’s Kashmir,” which serves as a vital historical record. Professor Rasool’s lecture, titled “Media and Viksit Bharat @2047,” focused on the media’s transformative role in India’s development by 2047. He identified six key contributions of media, such as strengthening democracy, promoting innovation, fostering social cohesion, and driving behavioral change. He emphasized the need for engaging youth and utilizing digital platforms to cultivate an informed society, while underscoring the importance of ethical journalism, credibility, and accountability. The lecture is part of an ongoing series that began in 2010, featuring discussions on various topics related to media ethics, governance, and national development. The event concluded with a vote of thanks, acknowledging the contributions of all participants in honoring Sat Paul Sahni’s memory and reinforcing the values of truth and integrity in journalism. B. R. Sharma and Dr. A. K. Bhan commended the organizing committee for their successful efforts in hosting the event.
