Diethylene Glycol Confirmed in Coldrif Syrup
CHHINDWARA, Madhya Pradesh: The Madhya Pradesh state government has taken strict action following the tragic deaths of 11 children in the Chhindwara district, who perished after consuming a contaminated cough syrup.
An FIR has been filed against both the attending doctor and the manufacturing company responsible for the drug.
Dr. Praveen Soni was arrested last night in connection with the case. Meanwhile, a case has also been filed against the drug manufacturer, Shreesan Pharmaceuticals of Tamil Nadu. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been tasked to investigate the manufacturer’s operations in Tamil Nadu.
The fatalities were linked to the consumption of Coldrif syrup. A report released yesterday confirmed the presence of the toxic substance diethylene glycol, which was found to be at a dangerous concentration of 48.6% in the cough syrup. The state government is now working to ensure accountability for the catastrophic loss of life.
