Srinagar |:Police on Friday said that it has launched a special district-wide inspection of SIM card vendors across Police District Handwara.
Police teams conducted checks across multiple locations to ensure compliance with Know Your Customer (KYC) regulations during SIM card issuance. The focus was on verifying documentation, ensuring that no SIM is activated without valid identification and address verification, and reviewing the safeguards vendors have in place to prevent unauthorized issuance. During interactions with vendors, police officials emphasized their critical role in safeguarding communication networks from misuse in illegal activities. Vendors were instructed to adhere strictly to KYC protocols and were warned of severe consequences, including potential license cancellation and prosecution, for any negligence. The J&K Police also called on the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities, fake documents, or irregularities related to SIM cards. Officials stressed that community cooperation, alongside strict enforcement measures, is vital for preventing misuse and ensuring security within the district. Reiterating its zero-tolerance policy Police assured that these inspection drives will be conducted regularly to maintain a secure communication environment.
