Srinagar | : Police on Thursday conducted destruction drives targeting wild bhung (cannabis) in the villages of Lokipora Kralgund and Talri in Handwara.
The operations were overseen by senior officers and involved participation from local community members, including the Masjid Committee, civil society representatives, Numberdar, and Chowkidar. The initiative successfully eradicated large areas of wild bhung growing in open fields. Community elders and civil society members expressed their commitment to support future efforts and pledged to raise awareness among the youth regarding the dangers of drug abuse. In a concluding statement, the police urged people to remain vigilant and report any illegal drug cultivation or sales, reiterating therein its commitment to a strict zero-tolerance policy aimed at creating a drug-free and healthy society.
