Distt Admin Organises Mega Event to Conclude Sewa Parv on Gandhi Jayanti

Pulwama | : The fortnight-long festival of public service, inclusive governance and community participation “Sewa Parv” culminated Thursday in Pulwama with a grand function organised at Government Degree College for Boys, Pulwama. The function organised on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti served as a tribute to the life and timeless teachings of the Father of the Nation.

On the occasion, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Pulwama, Dr. Basharat Qayoom, accompanied by Senior Superintendent of Police, Pulwama, P.D. Nitya, inspected stalls set up by various departments, including Health, Cooperatives, Agriculture, Horticulture, Labour & Employment, Revenue, KVIB, SHGs, Handicrafts & Handloom, J&K Bank, Fisheries, ICDS and Sheep Husbandry.

These stalls functioned as a one-window solution, providing services such as scheme registrations, enrolment, awareness, grievance redressal, and help desks for the general public.

Following the inspection, the DC and SSP also distributed sanction letters, motorised tricycles and various other entitlements among beneficiaries.

A plantation drive was also organised on the occasion in line with the objectives of Sewa Parv.

Meanwhile, DC Pulwama, SSP Pulwama along with district and sectoral officers paid floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi. The event also featured a series of cultural performances by students from educational institutions and by the Department of Information & Public Relations, conveying messages of cleanliness, care for the elderly and vulnerable, drug de-addiction, social responsibility and community service while various speakers recalled the life, struggles and teachings of Gandhi ji, underlining their relevance in Thursday’s world.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Qayoom said that Gandhiji’s principles of non-violence, truth, swachhta, swadeshi, social justice, equality, forgiveness and compassion are timeless and universal, and should be adopted not only in our personal lives but also made part of our collective social life. He stressed that Gandhi’s call for Swadeshi resonates Thursday in the form of the Make in India mission aimed at making the nation self-reliant.

“Every citizen has a role to play in realising Gandhi ji’s this dream of a self-sufficient India,” he added.

DC also highlighted the relevance of Gandhi ji’s advocacy for local self-governance, which Thursday finds expression in the three-tier Panchayati Raj system established across the country.

While reflecting on the achievements of Sewa Parv, the DC appreciated the efforts of all line departments in fulfilling the deliverables during the fortnight-long campaign. He made special mention of the progress achieved through health camps organised under the ‘Swasth Nari, Sashakt Parivar Abhiyan’, where exhaustive screening of the population was carried out besides providing other medical facilities.

He urged local communities, particularly women, to undergo regular health check-ups to detect and manage prevalent ailments such as anaemia, and directed medical teams to intensify monitoring and preventive measures.

In his concluding remarks, Dr. Qayoom said that although Sewa Parv has formally concluded, the spirit of sewa should continue as a way of life. He directed all departments to carry forward the essence of public service and inclusive governance, and called upon citizens to adopt Gandhiji’s universal values in their daily lives to help build a just, compassionate and self-reliant society.

Earlier, the DC administered a collective pledge to all participants, committing to work towards making the district plastic-free, promoting eco-friendly alternatives, and waste segregation at source.

The event culminated with a felicitation ceremony, wherein district officers, reputed authors, students who excelled in their 10th and 12th board examinations as well as NEET qualifiers, top-performing NGOs, charitable trusts, entrepreneurs, sportspersons, social activists, best-performing SHGs, Mission YUVA beneficiaries and progressive farmers were felicitated for their contributions.

The event witnessed the enthusiastic participation of district and sectoral officers, local citizens, students ,SHG members, social activists and social workers among others.
