Police conducts inspection of SIM vendors to curb SIM misuse in Handwara

Srinagar | : As part of its sustained efforts to strengthen internal security and prevent the misuse of mobile communication facilities, J&K Police on Tuesday launched a special district-wide inspection of SIM card vendors across Police District Handwara.

Police said that the police teams carried out checks at multiple locations, focusing on Verification of Know Your Customer (KYC) compliance, Scrutiny of documentation during SIM issuance, ensuring no SIM is activated without valid ID/address verification, reviewing safeguards adopted by vendors against unauthorized issuance.

Interacting with vendors, police officials highlighted their vital role in protecting communication networks from misuse in unlawful activities. Vendors were strictly directed to follow KYC protocols and warned of stringent legal action, including license cancellation and prosecution, in case of negligence.

J&K Police also urged the public to stay vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activity, fake documents, or irregularities related to SIM cards. Officials emphasized that community cooperation along with strict enforcement is essential to prevent misuse and ensure district security. In the concluding para of its above quoted statement police reaffirms its zero-tolerance policy and assured that such inspection drives will continue regularly to maintain a safe and secure communication environment.
