Special counters, dedicated OPDs, and personalized support aim to reduce waiting times and improve healthcare access for elderly and specially-abled patients
Srinagar|Sept, 25: Paras Hospital Srinagar has launched a priority care initiative aimed at enhancing the healthcare experience for senior citizens and specially abled individuals. This program focuses on providing quicker consultations, expedited diagnostics, and reduced waiting times, while also ensuring direct assistance from staff.
The initiative addresses significant barriers to healthcare access faced by these vulnerable groups. India’s ageing population is rapidly increasing, with nearly 149 million individuals over the age of 60 reported in 2022, projected to rise to 194 million by 2031. As health challenges such as hypertension, diabetes, and mobility issues become more prevalent with age, timely medical treatment is essential. Accessibility remains a critical concern, as older Indians typically travel an average of 14.5 km for outpatient care and over 43 km for hospitalization, with rural patients experiencing the greatest difficulties. For specially abled senior citizens, these challenges are exacerbated, often resulting in delayed diagnoses and poorer health outcomes. Dr. Murtaza Habib, Facility Director at Paras Hospital Srinagar, emphasized that the initiative is designed to eliminate barriers that hinder timely medical attention. The program streamlines access throughout the healthcare process, from registration to diagnostics, aiming to make hospital visits more efficient and respectful. To further support this initiative, the hospital has established a helpdesk for senior citizens, designated special outpatient days for elderly patients, initiated counseling and wellness programs, and provided structured guidance for home care support. Paras Hospital Srinagar is dedicated to improving healthcare access for senior citizens and specially abled patients, with the initiative serving as a sustainable framework for ensuring timely treatment, shorter waiting times, and dignified care, thereby setting a new standard in healthcare delivery.
