Srinagar | : Police in North Kashmir’s Baramulla and Kupwara districts on Friday conducted outreach and awareness programs aimed at educating the community about newly enacted criminal laws, drug abuse prevention, and enhancing community policing through Thana Diwas.
The initiatives were designed to foster stronger relationships with nomadic communities. An awareness-cum-quiz competition took place at Government Higher Secondary School, Pattan, where police officials delivered informative lectures on the new criminal laws. The event featured an engaging quiz with three student teams, culminating in the distribution of trophies and certificates to the winners, along with a memento for the school’s Principal. In addition to the quiz, police stations in Kupwara, Kralpora, Sogam, and Bazar conducted various awareness drives, public meetings, and interactive sessions to further engage with the community. A significant drug abuse awareness program was held at Government Higher Secondary School, KhoreSheerabad, Pattan, where a specialized team from the Police Drug De-Addiction Centre educated students on the dangers of substance abuse and the center’s role in rehabilitation and support. Moreover, an interactive session with the nomadic community at BrathpathriBehak, LachiporaBijhama was organized to improve coordination between police and these remote populations, who often lack regular access to policing services. Thana Diwas was also observed in both districts, with community representatives actively participating.
