Srinagar | : Dr. Farooq Abdullah, President J&K National Conference on Thursday called upon the Central Government to engage in meaningful dialogue with Ladakh’s leadership to address the region’s pressing grievances.
Addressing a press interaction at the Nawa-e-Subha headquarters, he highlighted the urgency of resolving these issues to prevent further escalation of discontent among the local population. Abdullah dismissed allegations of foreign interference in Ladakh, attributing the growing frustration to the government’s failure to fulfill its promises, particularly regarding the demand for statehood. He emphasized that this unfulfilled commitment has led to a sense of alienation and unrest among the people. He warned that if the Centre does not take the demand for statehood seriously, the discontent could worsen, potentially leading to a more serious situation. The NC President also stressed the importance of restoring trust among the youth in Ladakh, asserting that lasting peace can only be achieved through dialogue rather than suppression. He called on the Central Government to initiate discussions with relevant stakeholders to better understand their concerns and implement corrective measures. Abdullah noted that the youth are increasingly losing faith in the system, and fulfilling promises is essential to regain their trust.
