Reasi: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Thursday appealed to the people of Leh to maintain peace and refrain from taking the law into their own hands.
Talking to reporters in Reasi, Omar expressed concern over the deteriorating situation in Leh. “I urge the people of Ladakh to uphold peace and brotherhood. Do not resort to violence or take the law into your own hands,” he said.
The CM further said that the demand for Union Territory status was raised by the people themselves and encouraged them to progress in their pursuits.
Meanwhile, Omar interacted with residents of Duggain, Billawar, whose homes and livelihoods have been severely affected by recent flooding. He assured them that the government will provide all necessary support and assistance to those impacted.
Earlier, the Chief Minister conducted an aerial survey of flood-affected areas in the district, accompanied by MLA Bani, Dr. Rameshwar Singh. Following this, he held a meeting with district officials, including Deputy Commissioner Rajesh Sharma, Additional Deputy Commissioner, and senior civil and police officers. He directed the DC to conduct extensive field visits to all affected areas and submit detailed ground reports at the earliest.
Responding to the Election Commission of India’s announcement regarding the Rajya Sabha elections for Jammu and Kashmir after a four-year hiatus, the CM said the party will decide on the candidates for the four vacant seats in due course. He clarified that, at present, no discussions are underway regarding candidate selection
