Bandipora | :: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Bandipora, Indu Kanwal Chib, on Wednesday convened a meeting of concerned officers to discuss the adoption of Bio-waste Fuel and Solar Dehydration initiatives in the district.
During the meeting, a detailed presentation and live demonstration showcased the technologies, highlighting their scope and feasibility for local application.
It was explained that Bio-waste Fuel involves converting organic and agricultural waste into usable energy sources such as biogas or briquettes. This not only ensures efficient waste management but also reduces environmental hazards.
Similarly, Solar Dehydration uses solar energy to dry fruits, vegetables, and other perishables—helping preserve nutritional value, reduce post-harvest losses, and promote clean energy practices. A special focus was laid on the solar dehydration of fruits and vegetables, given Bandipora’s agricultural potential.
DC emphasized the need for inter-departmental coordination to ensure effective implementation of these eco-friendly practices aimed at resource conservation and sustainable growth. She underlined that adopting such technologies will reduce waste burden while offering cost-effective alternatives to local communities.
The meeting further stressed chalking out a comprehensive action plan with active involvement of local bodies and community institutions to maximize benefits.
Notably, representatives from NRLM Self Help Groups (SHGs), Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs), Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs), and the District Industries Centre (DIC) also participated in the programme, exploring avenues to integrate these technologies into community and industrial practices.
DC also appealed to the general public to adopt and utilize these technologies in their daily lives to help reduce waste, conserve energy, and contribute to environmental sustainability.
The meeting was attended by Assistant Commissioner Development, Coordinator WUCMA, Chief Agriculture Officer, and other concerned officers and departmental representatives.
