Srinagar: Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo on Monday visited the Zewan site to assess the construction of transit accommodations for Kashmiri Migrant employees under the Prime Minister’s Development Package (PMDP). He was accompanied by key officials, including the Principal Secretary of Public Works Department and the Divisional Commissioner of Kashmir.
During the visit, Dulloo reviewed the progress of 936 one-BHK flats, noting that 624 have been completed and 312 are in various stages of construction. A total of 703 flats have been allotted, reflecting an increase of 51 allotments since March 2025. The Chief Secretary was informed about the timelines for further completions, with 96 flats expected by September 2025, 72 between October and December 2025, and 144 from January to March 2026. Financially, the revised cost of the Zewan project is Rs 197.37 crore, with Rs 124.07 crore utilized as of March 2025. An additional Rs 73.30 crore is proposed for the 2025-26 fiscal year, with Rs 36.65 crore already released this year. Dulloo emphasized the importance of completing the project on time and ensuring prompt allotment of the completed units to employees. He highlighted the strategic location of the Zewan site, which serves employees in both Srinagar and Pulwama districts, and stressed the need for high construction quality and adherence to timelines. The Chief Secretary is actively monitoring the progress of transit accommodations across the Valley, which have shown significant advancement in recent years. At the UT level, a total of 6,000 transit accommodations are being constructed for Kashmiri Migrant employees under the PMDP, with a revised budget of Rs 1,245.38 crore. The total project funding, including additional commitments from the UT Government, amounts to Rs 1,325.85 crore, which covers Rs 983.28 crore for construction and Rs 342.57 crore for allied works.
