Srinagar | : Eight faculty members from the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar have been recognized in the Top 2% Global Scientists List 2025, an esteemed ranking compiled by Stanford University, which serves as a significant indicator of research excellence and academic impact.
The faculty members honored include Prof. MF Wani (MED), Prof. MA Shah (Physics), Prof. Bashir Ahmed Mir (Civil), Dr. Neeraj Gupta (EED), Dr. Vijay Kumar (Physics), Dr. Sandeep Samantaray (CED), Dr. Pravan Kumar Katiyar (M&ME), and Dr. Sandeep Rathee. The rankings are derived from the Updated Science-Wide Author Databases of Standardized Citation Indicators, overseen by Prof. John P.A. Ioannidis at Stanford University. The latest version, published on September 19, 2025, utilizes data updated to August 1, 2025, from Scopus, encompassing citation records up to the end of 2024. The evaluation criteria include various metrics such as citations, h-index, co-authorship-adjusted h-index, career-long impact, and single-year performance, while also considering self-citations and retracted papers. Prof. Binod Kumar Kanaujia, Director of NIT Srinagar, expressed pride in the faculty’s achievements, emphasizing that this recognition enhances the institute’s global academic reputation. Similarly, Registrar Prof. Atikur Rehman highlighted the recognition as a testament to the institute’s vibrant research environment, which is expected to motivate students and young faculty towards innovative pursuits. The rankings differentiate between single-year performance, which assesses research impact within a specific year, and career-wise rankings that evaluate overall academic contributions. This initiative is a collaborative effort between Stanford University and scientific publisher Elsevier, reinforcing the importance of high-quality research in academia.
