Doda : The Anti-Corruption Court in Doda has convicted two engineers, Syed Ikhlaq Hussain Peer and Raja Faisal, for corruption related to a public works project. Both were employed in the Public Works Department (R&B) West Sub Division Doda and were found guilty under multiple sections of the J&K Prevention of Corruption Act and the RPC.
According to a statement issued by J&K ACB the court sentenced each engineer to three years of rigorous imprisonment, with fines totaling ₹30,000. “The case stemmed from a complaint by a contractor who had completed blacktopping work on the Doda–Ganeka road”, reads the ACB statement, adding therein that although 75% of the payment was released, the engineers demanded an illegal bribe of ₹45,000 for the remaining amount, causing undue harassment to the contractor. Stateing that A trap was set, leading to the arrest of Raja Faisal, who was caught accepting the bribe in the presence of witnesses the J&K ACB in its statement further said that investigations confirmed the involvement of Syed Ikhlaq Hussain Peer leading to a charge sheet and their eventual conviction after a trial.
