Ganderbal : The Department of Economics at the Central University of Kashmir organized a lecture titled “Empowering Investors through Education,” presented by Bilal Ahmad Hakeem, a market trainer affiliated with various financial institutions such as NSE, BSE, CDSL, and NSDL.
The event, held at the university’s Green campus, aimed to enhance financial literacy among postgraduate students, focusing on investment principles and responsible participation in capital markets. Dr. Masroor Ahmad, Head of the Department of Economics, emphasized the importance of financial literacy for individuals looking to utilize their savings effectively in the financial market. Mr. Hakeem provided a detailed overview of stock market fundamentals, including types of securities, the function of stock exchanges, and trading mechanisms. He underscored financial literacy as a crucial skill for responsible investing, highlighting how informed investors can protect themselves from market volatility and fraud. Additionally, Mr. Hakeem discussed the Securities and Exchange Board of India’s (SEBI) “SMARTs Investor Awareness Program,” which aims to educate investors about market operations, legal rights, and risk management. He illustrated how such initiatives can empower first-time investors and foster trust and transparency within the financial system.
