University of Jammu Inaugurates Inter-Collegiate Kabaddi (Men) Tournament 2025–26

Jammu : The Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu, inaugurated the Annual Calendar of Inter-Collegiate Events 2025–26, marking the beginning of a new season of competitive sports activities. The opening event of this year’s calendar is the Inter-Collegiate Kabaddi (Men) Tournament 2025–26, a flagship sporting competition aimed at promoting health, physical fitness, teamwork, and sportsmanship among the youth.
The prestigious Annual events of Inter-Collegiate provide a vibrant platform for the students of the University’s affiliated colleges to showcase their sporting talent and competitive spirit. It continues to play a pivotal role in encouraging students to adopt an active lifestyle while fostering unity and friendship through the traditional sport of Kabaddi.
Dr. Daud Iqbal Baba, Director, Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu, interacted with the participating teams, conducted the ceremonial toss, and extended his best wishes to all players for an inspiring and fair contest. The importance of traditional Indian sports such as Kabaddi in promoting physical fitness and nurturing discipline, resilience, and teamwork among students.
Other Prominent faculty members and officials present on the occasion included Dr. Mandeep Singh, Dr. Vimal Kishore, Sh. Ravish Vaid, Sh. Vikas Karlopia, Sh. Gagan Kumar, Sh. Jai Bharat, Dr. Inderjeet Singh, Dr. Mahak, S. Harinderpal Singh, Ms. Richa Mandla, and Mr. Rishiv Sharma, along with various officials and participants representing affiliated colleges of the University of Jammu. Their presence added significance to the event and reflected the collective commitment of the University towards promoting sports culture.
Day One Highlights: The inaugural day of the tournament witnessed thrilling contests and an exceptional display of skills and strategy by the participating teams. Each match was marked by competitive spirit and high energy, underscoring the growing popularity of Kabaddi among students.
Results of Day One Matches:
GDC Hiranagar defeated GDC Ramnagar by 6 points.
MIET Jammu defeated GDC Mendhar by 11 points.
GDC Chenani defeated GDC Basohli by 11 points.
GDC Doda defeated GDC Marh by 12 points.
GDC Gaghwal defeated Dogra Degree College by 8 points.
BDC Udhampur defeated GDC Bishnah by 27 points.
GDC Khour defeated GDC Dharmari by 5 points.
The matches were characterized by intense competition and outstanding performances, reflecting the dedication and rigorous preparation of the participating teams.
The tournament is being conducted under the overall supervision of Dr. Daud Iqbal Baba, Director, Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu. The dedicated staff of the Directorate have worked diligently to ensure the smooth and efficient execution of the event with a strong emphasis on discipline, fair play, and organizational excellence.
The technical panel responsible for officiating the matches included experienced referees and officials, namely Sh. Anil Sharma, Sh. Ajay Gupta, Sh. Dheeraj Sharma, Sh. Keshav Singh, S. Amandeep Singh, and Sh. Gagan Kumar, whose professional expertise ensured that all matches were conducted with fairness and adherence to the rules of the game.
