Anantnag: Under Mera Resham Mera Abhiman (MRMA) initiative, the Central Silk Board–CSR&TI, Pampore in collaboration with the Sericulture Development Department, J&K, organized a training programme on “Silkworm Rearing Techniques” today at Sallar, Batapora, Dachnipora, Anantnag.
The programme was aimed at upgrading the knowledge and skills of silkworm rearers to ensure better cocoon production and enhance their income. 36 silkworm rearers from the area actively participated and showed keen interest in learning improved methods of silkworm rearing.
Experts from CSB-CSR&TI and the Department of Sericulture provided hands-on training on critical aspects such as bed spacing, leaf selection and preservation, environmental management, disease prevention and proper handling of rearing equipment. Special focus was laid on scientific practices that minimize crop loss and improve the quality and quantity of cocoons.
The interactive nature of the session allowed farmers to clarify their doubts and gain practical insights. Farmers also exchanged their experiences, which further enriched the training. The resource persons emphasized that adoption of these improved techniques would significantly contribute to higher productivity and sustainable sericulture development in the region.
Officials remarked that such capacity-building programmes are central to empowering farmers, strengthening the sericulture sector, and promoting rural livelihood opportunities under MRMA.
