SSP Mehta Says 81 held, 70 released; Police maintain restrictions, minor girl’s death being investigated
Jammu : The Doda Police administration is closely monitoring the situation in the district following protests triggered by the detention of MLA Mehraj Malik under the Public Safety Act (PSA). A total of 81 individuals were detained, with 70 released and 11 still under questioning.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Sandeep Mehta on Monday announced that broadband Wi-Fi services have been restored, but there is concern over the circulation of both verified and unverified content on social media, including old and provocative videos. The police aim to prevent any content that could incite violence or disrupt communal harmony. Mehta highlighted an advisory issued by the District Magistrate, warning social media users against sharing content that promotes violence or communal discord, as such actions will be considered illegal. He urged the youth to refrain from engaging in activities that could disturb public order. The police are actively monitoring social media for individuals and groups disseminating provocative content, although no actions have yet been taken against these accounts. The SSP emphasized the importance of public cooperation in maintaining peace and indicated that mobile internet services will be gradually restored as the situation stabilizes. Regarding reports of blocked accounts on social media platforms, Mehta clarified that there is no official record of 300 accounts being blocked, but channels and individuals promoting unrest are under surveillance. He also addressed the tragic death of a two-year-old girl during the protests, stating that a senior officer has been assigned to investigate the incident, and appropriate actions will follow based on the findings.
