Srinagar : The Students’ Chapter of the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) at the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar celebrated Engineers’ Day with a program that included a keynote address by Rajat Srivastava from the Ministry of Good Governance. He emphasized the critical role of engineers in national development, stating that their contributions span from infrastructure to digital innovation, shaping societal progress.
Director NIT Srinagar Prof. Binod Kumar Kanaujia, reflected on the significance of Engineers’ Day as a moment to honor the vision of Sir M. Visvesvaraya. He underscored the institute’s responsibility to cultivate not only technical skills but also social responsibility and innovation among students to address contemporary challenges. Registrar Prof. Atikur Rahman highlighted the importance of platforms that nurture young talent, noting that competitions like the Idea-thon and quiz foster creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities essential for future leaders.
The event featured a Quiz Competition that tested students’ critical thinking and general awareness in engineering, showcasing enthusiastic participation. The Idea-thon was a key highlight, where students presented innovative solutions to pressing issues such as renewable energy, smart infrastructure, and digital inclusion. The proposals were evaluated by judges Dr. Pankaj Kumar and Dr. Pramod Kumar. Dr. Iqra Geelani, the event coordinator, stated that the celebration aimed to connect technical knowledge with real-world challenges, reflecting the innovative spirit of the students
