Says “Concrete measures within 24 Hours For highway opening”
Srinagar : Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Monay expressed concern over the stranding of apple-laden trucks on the Srinagar-Jammu highway, highlighting the urgent need for improved connectivity in Jammu and Kashmir.
In a communication with Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, Abdullah acknowledged the frustration of local fruit growers, who have been patient but are now witnessing their produce spoil due to the highway’s poor condition. He indicated that concrete measures would be taken within the next 24 hours to address the situation, although he withheld specific details until the plan is officially announced. Abdullah criticized the Central Government for its inability to maintain the highway, suggesting that if the government cannot manage it effectively, it should transfer control to the Jammu and Kashmir Government. He emphasized that had the highway been under his jurisdiction, it would have been opened by now. The Chief Minister also called for more regular train services to facilitate the transportation of fruits, urging the Railway Minister to increase the frequency of train operations to provide growers with viable transport options.
