Srinagar : Police on Saturday said that in a close coordination with the Excise and Revenue Departments a massive anti-narcotics drive was on Saturday launched by it across multiple areas of the Kulgam. The operation focused on the destruction of wild cannabis (Bhang) that had grown extensively along the banks of Nallahs and in adjoining fields at Harnag, Wanpoh, Khandiphari, Qaimoh, Badderpora, Thokerpora, Maqdampora, and Devsar.
During the drive, special teams comprising officers and field staff from Police, Excise, and Revenue Departments conducted extensive searches and cleared large patches of land where wild cannabis had proliferated. The operation was carried out methodically, ensuring that both accessible and remote stretches of cannabis growth were destroyed on the spot. Importantly, the drive witnessed active participation from members of local civil society, including community elders and youth volunteers, who joined hands with the authorities to support the cause.
Speaking on the occasion, SSP Kulgam Sahil Sarangal said: “Police is committed to adopt a zero-tolerance approach against narcotics. Our priority is to eliminate the drug menace from society by dismantling its ecosystem and cutting it off at the roots. We urge people to continue extending their cooperation and to play an active role in safeguarding our youth from the dangers of drug addiction.”
