Bandipora: In line with the objectives of achieving Garbage Free Cities (GFC) under the Swachh Bharat Mission–Urban 2.0 (SBM-U 2.0), a comprehensive capacity building workshop was organized Thursday at Town Hall, Bandipora for the technical staff and sanitary staff of Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) of Bandipora, Sumbal & Hajin.
The workshop focused on key themes including Segregation of Waste at Source, Door-to-Door Collection of Waste, Ban on Single Use Plastics (SUPs) and the Use & Implementation of Reduce, Reuse, Recycle (RRR) Centers.
CEO Municipal Council Bandipora, Aijaz Ahmad Khan attended the event, which was organized with expert facilitation from Swaaha Resource Management Pvt. Ltd. He deliberated on various aspects of Solid Waste Management and sustainable practices under SBM-U 2.0.
Speaking on the occasion, Capacity Building Expert of Swaaha highlighted the importance of citizen participation in achieving effective waste management, emphasizing that segregation of waste at the household level is the first and most critical step towards a garbage-free city. The expert also underlined the role of ULBs in ensuring efficient door-to-door collection, discouraging single-use plastic and promoting RRR centers as hubs for waste recycling and resource recovery.
The workshop witnessed active participation from the sanitary staff of all three ULBs, local citizens and students who were sensitized and trained on modern waste management practices. The initiative aims to strengthen their skills and capacity for implementing SBM-U 2.0 objectives effectively at the grassroots level. There was an on-field visit to Government Girls Higher Secondary School Bandipora which has done remarkable work on sensitising students on the concept of Zero waste.
Municipal Council Bandipora reaffirmed its commitment to advancing the Garbage Free City mission and encouraged staff to act as change agents in fostering sustainable waste management practices across the district.
