NIT Srinagar, IIT Delhi organise orientation workshop on UBA for 51 PIs in J&K

Experts highlight tech-driven solutions for rural growth, plastic pollution, renewable energy

Srinagar : The Regional Coordinating Institute (RCI) at the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar, in partnership with the National Coordinating Institute (NCI) at IIT Delhi, hosted on Thursday a one-day orientation workshop on the Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA) for Participating Institutions (PIs) in Jammu and Kashmir.
The event saw active participation from 51 representatives from various higher educational institutions, emphasizing the importance of academia in driving rural transformation. The workshop was inaugurated by Prof. M.F. Wani, the Regional Coordinator of RCI NIT Srinagar, who acknowledged the support from the Ministry of Education and NCI IIT Delhi in promoting UBA’s mission. He presented a progress report on UBA activities in the region and discussed future plans to enhance the program’s impact. Prof. Atikur Rehman, the Institute’s Registrar, highlighted the evolution of UBA and its significance in bridging the gap between academic institutions and rural needs, advocating for collaborative solutions to improve rural life. The workshop included a live demonstration of the newly launched UBA ERP Portal by Ms. Manavee Ajit Singh, which equipped participants with essential digital tools for effective engagement in UBA initiatives. Dr. Dinesh Kumar Rajendran discussed the transformative potential of 3D printing and drone technology in agriculture, emphasizing their role in enhancing precision farming and providing innovative solutions for rural farmers. Er. Bashir Ahmad presented on the impact of solar energy for sustainable development, encouraging youth to explore solar entrepreneurship as a means to address energy challenges and create livelihood opportunities. Prof. Sami Ullah raised awareness about plastic pollution and its risks, while also discussing innovative recycling pathways that could foster entrepreneurship within rural communities. Feedback was collected from attendees, and certificates and mementos were distributed, marking a successful and impactful event.
