Srinagar: Leader of the Opposition (LoP) Sunil Sharma, conducted a comprehensive visit to various flood-affected areas of the Srinagar district on Thursday to assess the situation on the ground and extend solidarity with affected residents. Senior officers of the administration and BJP’s local leaders also accompanied him.
During his visit, Sharma interacted with local people bearing the brunt of the recent heavy rainfall and subsequent flooding. He surveyed key areas where damage to homes, infrastructure, and livelihoods has severely impacted daily life.
Expressing deep concern over the extent of devastation, he assured residents that immediate relief measures are being prioritized to support those in distress.
The pain and hardship faced by families here is unimaginable and my heart goes out to every individual affected by this calamity,” Sharma said.
Sunil Sharma said that he is personally working in close coordination with administration and relevant authorities to ensure that relief reaches the affected without delay. Every effort is being made to accelerate rehabilitation and restore normalcy at the earliest.
Sharma emphasized the need for a coordinated and compassionate response, including rapid deployment of essential supplies such as food, clean drinking water, blankets, and medical aid. He also urged local authorities to streamline rescue and rehabilitation operations, ensuring no family is left behind.
The LoP also called upon government agencies to conduct a thorough assessment of the damage and initiate compensation and reconstruction efforts without bureaucratic delays. He stressed the importance of preventive infrastructure and better urban planning to mitigate the impact of such natural disasters in the future.
Sunil Sharma further said that safety and survival of lives must be our topmost priority.
He reiterated his commitment to continue monitoring the situation and providing all necessary assistance to affected families. He urged citizens to remain united and support each other during these testing times.
The visit by Sunil Sharma underscores the Opposition’s proactive role in standing with the people and ensuring accountability and responsiveness in disaster management and public service delivery
