Srinagar: A sensitization cum mobilization programme on ‘Safe and Dignified Breastfeeding’ under Beti Bachao Beti Padhao initiative was Thursday organized by Social Welfare department Srinagar at CDPO office Khanyar.
During the programme, females were made familiar with safe and dignified breastfeeding which involves providing mothers and infants with safe, supportive, and private environments, promoting on-demand feeding, and ensuring the mother’s physical and emotional well-being through proper nutrition and community support.
Key aspects included initiating feeding within the first hour of birth, exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months, and having access to safe, private spaces in public areas and workplaces, rather than public toilets.
The programme witnessed the presence of the resource person from Dept. of Health, Dr Rakshanda who shared her views regarding creating the environment where mothers feel respected and supported, not stigmatized or forced into uncomfortable situations.
Staff of SANKALP-Hub for Empowerment of Women discussed various aspects of the topic, and interaction from the audience made the session more informative and valuable.
Also, sessions involved sensitization on children’s rights along with promoting a safe and supportive environment for both girls and boys, preventing violence against girls, and addressing the issues of child sexual abuse.
