Leh (Ladakh) : Three soldiers from the Army’s Mahar Regiment, including two Agniveers, were on Tuesday killed due to an avalanche at the Siachen glacier in Ladakh.
Reports said that soldiers were trapped under snow for approximately five hours before rescue teams could reach them. An Army Captain caught in the avalanche was successfully rescued. The Fire and Fury Corps of the Army expressed their condolences and honored the fallen soldiers, Sepoy Mohit Kumar, Agniveer Niraj Kumar Choudhary, and Agniveer Dabhi Rakesh Devabhai, for their ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. The Siachen Glacier, situated at nearly 20,000 feet, is recognized as the world’s highest battlefield, where temperatures can plummet to minus 60 degrees Celsius, posing significant risks from avalanches. Historical data indicates that this is not an isolated incident; in 2021, two soldiers died in a similar avalanche, and in 2019, four soldiers and two porters lost their lives due to an avalanche near a patrol post at 18,000 feet.
