Kangan(Himachal): Grief has enveloped Central Kashmir’s Kangan following the tragic deaths of three local labourers in a landslide in Himachal Pradesh’s Kullu district.
The incident, which occurred two days prior, resulted in the deaths of at least eight individuals, including six from Kashmir. The deceased have been identified as Abdul Rashid Sheikh, Mehraj-ud-Din Lone, and Sajjad Ahmad Wani, all from Kangan. Witnesses said that rmotional scenes unfolded as the bodies were airlifted back to their villages, with thousands attending the funeral prayers, expressing profound sorrow. Local leaders, including MLA Gurez Nazir Ahmad Khan Gurezi and MLA Kangan Mian Mehar Ali, participated in the last rites, offering support to the grieving families.
Respectables of the area lamented the loss, stating they had sent the men to work but received them back in coffins. Political leaders across Jammu and Kashmir expressed their condolences, with Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha highlighting the tragedy’s impact. MLA Mian Mehar Ali assured families of support and confirmed that efforts were underway to assist those affected. Rescue operations in Kullu are ongoing, with at least three more labourers from Kangan still trapped under the debris. Families in Kashmir remain anxious as they await news of their loved ones.
