All agencies united to safeguard lives, property, helplines active 24×7: IGP Kashmir

Srinagar: Srinagar Police, in collaboration with the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), River Police, and other agencies, have initiated extensive evacuation and relief operations in response to severe flooding caused by heavy rainfall. Over 200 families and individuals have been successfully rescued from various flood-affected areas, including Peerzo Island, Basantbagh, and multiple neighborhoods across the city.
IGP Kashmir V. K. Bridi here on Thursday said that coordinated efforts among all agencies are being ensured to protect lives and property, with operations being conducted under the supervision of territorial officers. Rescue operations have targeted specific locations, successfully evacuating families from regions such as Bonyarbal, Noorbagh, and Hazratbal, among others. In addition to rescue efforts, police personnel have been proactive in preventing potential breaches at embankments, thereby mitigating further risks.
Quick Response Teams (QRTs) and contingency squads have been mobilized to manage traffic, assist stranded individuals, and ensure timely responses to emergencies. To enhance public safety, Srinagar Police have established 24/7 helplines and provided contact information for district officers to facilitate immediate assistance. Residents are advised to avoid unnecessary travel during adverse weather conditions and to report any hazards, such as waterlogging or fallen trees. IGP Bridi reassured the public that all relevant departments, including the Army and civil administration, are working in close coordination to ensure effective rescue and relief operations. He urged the community to remain calm and adhere to advisories, noting that weather conditions are improving and water levels are expected to decrease. The J&K Police remain committed to public safety and will continue to provide support during this challenging period.
