Dir, Registrar hails faculty for securing prestigious grants
Srinagar : The National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar has achieved a significant milestone in research and innovation, with two faculty members securing prestigious grants from the Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF) of the Government of India, totaling over ₹1.11 crore.
Dr. Manoj Kumar, an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, has been awarded the Inclusivity Research Grant (IRG) for his project focused on developing a solar-powered atmospheric water harvesting system. This project, funded at ₹43.68 lakh over three years, aims to provide potable water in areas where traditional technologies are ineffective, addressing critical environmental challenges. Dr. Kumar expressed his gratitude for the support, emphasizing the opportunity to create inclusive solutions for communities in need. In parallel, Dr. Ikhlaq Hussain, also an Assistant Professor but in the Department of Electrical Engineering, received the Prime Minister’s Early Career Research Grant (PM ECRG) for his project on enhancing the stability and flexibility of grid-tied solar photovoltaic systems. His project has been allocated ₹68 lakh over three years and aims to develop advanced control strategies that contribute to India’s renewable energy goals. Both faculty members’ projects not only tackle pressing issues in water security and renewable energy but also align with national priorities of sustainability and inclusivity. The Director of NIT Srinagar, Prof. Binod Kumar Kanaujia, commended their achievements, highlighting the institution’s growing research excellence. Registrar Prof. Atikur Rehman also praised the faculty’s dedication, noting that securing such competitive grants reflects NIT Srinagar’s commitment to impactful research with societal relevance.
