New Delhi: Indian Railways has launched a new biometric sign-on and sign-off system for its Ticket Checking staff, representing a significant advancement in modernizing railway operations and enhancing accountability. The first digital TTE lobby became operational at Pt. Deen Dayal Upadhyay Junction on August 29, 2025, with successful implementations across various divisions, including those in the Banaras, Sonpur, Ratlam, and several others across different railway zones. The Jammu Division of Northern Railway is expected to adopt the system soon. This innovative system utilizes biometric authentication through Aadhaar-enabled devices, ensuring a tamper-proof and transparent attendance process that accurately records working hours and duty status in real time. The key objectives of the biometric system include authentic attendance verification, real-time tracking of staff availability, enhanced monitoring of working hours, and seamless integration with Hand Held Terminals (HHTs) and duty rosters for efficient staff deployment. The introduction of this biometric sign-on/off system underscores Indian Railways’ commitment to improving operational efficiency and transparency. By streamlining staff deployment and enhancing accountability, the system aims to significantly improve the overall experience for passengers.
