Srinagar | Sept,2 : The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) has initiated an investigation into a land fraud case involving a sum of Rs 53 lakh, following a complaint against several individuals. The accused include land brokers Tariq Ahmad Hajam and Ghulam Hassan Mir, along with brothers Sonaullah Mir and Razzak Mir. They allegedly deceived the complainant by falsely representing a land transaction.
The EOW’s investigation revealed that the accused colluded with revenue officers to manipulate documents and processes, facilitating the fraudulent acquisition of money and land. An FIR has been filed against the four individuals under sections 420 and 120-B of the Indian Penal Code, with further inquiries ongoing to explore the broader conspiracy and the involvement of public officials.
In recent months, the EOW has uncovered multiple land fraud cases in Kashmir, highlighting significant collusion between fraudsters and revenue officials. Notably, on August 29, the EOW registered two additional cases against known fraudsters already facing trial for similar offenses, which previously implicated several individuals, including a Tehsildar and a Patwari, in corruption and tampering with revenue records.
