Police detains drug peddler under PIT NDPS Act in Kupwara

Srinagar: Police on Friday said that it has successfully secured the detention of a habitual drug peddler under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcoti c Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT NDPS) Act, 1988.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police headquarters Srinagar Police said that the accused identified as Abdul Qayoom Lone S/o Mohd Munawar Lone R/o Lashtiyal, Kalaroos, District Kupwara, has been detained for his repeated involvement in drug peddling activities.
Stating that the accused was booked in FIR No. 80/2024 under Sections 8/21 NDPS Act at Police Station Kupwara Police in its statement further said that after thorough investigation and compilation of incriminating evidence SSP Kupwara submitted a detailed dossier to the competent authority, adding therein that upon careful consideration of the material and in view of his continuous involvement in drug trafficking Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, issued Detention Order No. DIVCOM-“K”/01/2025 dated 22.01.2025 under the provisions of the PIT NDPS Act.
Police in its statement further said that besides pursuance to the said order, the accused was lodged in District Jail Rajouri for preventive detention, as his activities were found to be highly detrimental to public health and particularly harmful for the younger generation.
In the concluding para of its above quoted statement J&K Police reaffirmed its commitment to eradicate the menace of drugs from the society, appealing therein people to cooperate by sharing timely information about drug peddlers so that stringent action can be taken against them under law.
