Jammu : Director Agriculture Jammu Anil Gupta Thursday convened a meeting with State Heads of Insurance Companies to address the issue of crop loss-damage due to incessant rain and its timely redressal under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY).
The meeting was held at Directorate of Agriculture, Krishi Bhawan, Talab and attended by State Head Bajaj Alliance General Insurance Sonu Kashyap ; State Head Reliance General Insurance Mahavir Singh; Nodal Officer PMFBY (DAJ) Anirudh Bhat and the functionaries from insurance companies, departmental officers and staff members.
The main agenda of the meeting was to discuss the registration of crop loss intimations due to the recent heavy rains and landslides.
The Director Agriculture Jammu asked the department to mobilize farmers to register their crop loss intimation on the toll-free number 14447 or WhatsApp number 7065514447 under PMFBY, so that compensation can be provided in a timely manner under the scheme.
The Director Agriculture directed insurance companies to deploy their staff in the affected fields and work in close coordination with Agriculture Officers at the Panchayat level to spread awareness regarding crop loss intimation and to assess crop damage on the ground.
“The recent heavy rains and landslides have caused considerable damage to standing crops in many areas. I deeply empathize with the hardships faced by our farming community during this difficult time. The Department of Agriculture is committed to extending every possible support to the affected farmers. I sincerely urge all farmers to immediately register and report their crop losses through the toll-free number under PMFBY, so that timely compensation and benefits under the crop insurance scheme can reach you. Your cooperation will help us ensure speedy redressal and safeguard your livelihoods,” the Director Agriculture said
The Insurance companies assured full cooperation and support to the farming community and committed to work in close coordination with the Agriculture Department to ensure quick processing of claims and timely relief to farmers.
