Srinagar-Jammu, other key highways closed for traffic

Status of Jammu-Pathankot NH44 will be reviewed, MeT predicts improvement from today, train operations resume in Jammu
Srinagar: Continuous rainfall has led to the closure of the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway (NH-44) due to multiple landslides and shooting stones. The Jammu-Pathankot National Highway’s status will be reassessed on August 28, while the Kishtwar-Sinthan-Anantnag road and the Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumari road are also closed, restricting all traffic. The Mughal Road, an important alternative route, is similarly affected by landslides.
The Meteorological Centre in Srinagar has issued a warning for ongoing rainfall and potential weather-related disruptions in Jammu and Kashmir. Heavy rainfall has been recorded in the Jammu division, causing waterlogging and hazards in vulnerable areas. The forecast indicates generally cloudy weather with intermittent light to moderate rainfall expected on August 27, with slight improvement anticipated on August 28 and 29. However, a new spell of active weather is expected from August 30 to September 1, bringing moderate to heavy rain. Residents and travelers are advised to stay informed about road conditions and avoid areas prone to landslides and flooding. Train operations from Jammu have resumed after a temporary halt due to heavy rainfall, with several trains that were previously canceled now back on schedule. Railway teams are monitoring the situation closely to ensure passenger safety.
