Srinagar| Aug, 28 : Two unidentified terrorists were killed today after security forces foiled an infiltration attempt in the Gurez sector of Jammu and Kashmir’s Bandipora district, the Army said.
Acting on specific intelligence provided by the Jammu and Kashmir Police regarding a possible infiltration attempt, a joint operation was launched by the Indian Army and J&K Police in the Naushera Nar area along the Line of Control (LoC).
Alert troops detected suspicious movement and challenged the infiltrators, who responded with indiscriminate fire. Security forces retaliated swiftly, neutralising two terrorists. The identity and affiliation of the slain militants are yet to be ascertained.
In a statement, the Army’s Srinagar-based Chinar Corps confirmed the operation and said it was still in progress.
“Based on intelligence provided by JKP regarding likely infiltration attempt, a joint operation was launched by Indian Army and JmuKmrPolice in Gurez Sector. Alert troops spotted suspicious activity and challenged, which resulted in terrorists opening indiscriminate fire. Troops responded with effective fire, neutralising two terrorists. Operation is in progress,” Chinar Corps said.
This is the second infiltration attempt foiled in recent days. Three days ago, a similar bid was thwarted in the Uri sector of Baramulla district after the Army detected movement near the LoC. Earlier, on August 13, a soldier was killed in the same sector during an exchange of fire.
