Razdan Top receives season’s first snowfall, hailstorm hits B’pora, Kangan
Srinagar: The local Meteorological Department has issued a warning of a heavy rainfall across the Jammu division and two districts in Kashmir over the next 48 hours, with potential risks of cloudbursts and flash floods.
The alert specifically targets Anantnag and Kulgam in Kashmir, as well as all ten districts of the Jammu region. The forecast indicates a likelihood of cloudbursts, landslides, and flash floods in the Jammu division during this period. In addition to the rainfall warning, the season’s first snowfall has been recorded at Razdan Top in Bandipora district, signaling a transition to autumn as temperatures in the mountains have significantly dropped. Reports of hailstorms have also emerged from the Yachama area in Kangan, Ganderbal district, and Bandipora. Dr. Mukhtar Ahmad, the Director of MeT, has provided a detailed forecast predicting light to moderate rain and thundershowers until August 26, with heavy rainfall expected in Jammu, Reasi, Udhampur, Samba, Rajouri, and Kathua. Moderate to heavy rainfall is anticipated in Poonch, Ramban, Doda, Kishtwar, and southern parts of the Kashmir division. Following this period, from August 27 to 31, hot and humid weather with brief rain and thunder is expected, continuing into early September. The MeT has advised the public to avoid water bodies, streams, and unstable structures, urging local authorities to implement necessary precautions in light of the forecasted weather conditions.
