Srinagar: The remains of Saba Rasool, a Kashmiri MBBS student who passed away in Iran, were returned to Srinagar and interred in her ancestral graveyard in Safa Kadal. As already reported that the body was transported after completing necessary formalities in Tehran and Delhi, arriving in Srinagar amid emotional scenes.
A significant number of people attended the Nimaz-e-Jinazah at Seki Daffer Park prior to the burial. The family expressed gratitude to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) for their assistance in repatriating Saba’s body, although they faced substantial financial burdens, having to pay nearly ten times the normal airfare for the return. The Jammu and Kashmir Students Association (JKSA) acknowledged the support from Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Advisor Nasir Sogami for facilitating dignified transportation but highlighted the extraordinary hardships endured by the family during this difficult time. The JKSA has called on External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar to reimburse the family’s expenses and to establish a formal support system for families of Indian students and citizens who die abroad, emphasizing that such moments of grief should be met with compassion rather than financial strain.
