Srinagar | : Hakeem Mohammad Yaseen, President of the People’s Democratic Front (PDF), extended warm greetings to the people of Jammu and Kashmir and the nation on the 79th Independence Day, emphasizing the themes of peace, prosperity, and harmony.

In a statement issued here on Friday Hakeem honored the sacrifices of freedom fighters and the people of Jammu and Kashmir, highlighting their commitment to justice, dignity, and democracy. He underscored the significance of Independence Day as a reminder of the sacrifices made for freedom and the responsibilities that accompany it. Yaseen reiterated his demand for the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s special constitutional status and full statehood, expressing a desire for the region to celebrate Independence Day in an atmosphere of openness, akin to other states. He urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah to fulfill their commitments regarding statehood restoration promptly. He called for the Union Government to take decisive actions in the current Parliamentary session to address the political and constitutional aspirations of the people, stressing that the restoration of statehood should be achieved through dialogue and consensus to ensure lasting peace and stability.

Criticizing certain political parties for pursuing legal avenues without public transparency, Yaseen emphasized the need for the people of Jammu and Kashmir to be informed and involved in the process. He called for the Centre to acknowledge the emotional, historical, and cultural significance of the region’s special status and to implement measures that would bridge the existing trust deficit. He advocated for confidence-building initiatives, political outreach, and economic programs to integrate the youth into the national growth narrative. In his concluding remarks, Yaseen appealed for peace and unity among all stakeholders, urging collaborative efforts towards prosperity, social justice, and the protection of rights. He reaffirmed the importance of resolving issues through dialogue rather than confrontation and called for meaningful political engagement from the government. He encouraged the people of Jammu and Kashmir to uphold the values of freedom, secularism, and brotherhood while continuing their peaceful struggle for constitutional rights and dignity.
