Says “It is a wake-up call, calls for early warning systems to avert such disasters”

Srinagar | : Hakeem Muhammad Yaseen the President Jammu & Kashmir  People’s Democratic Front (J&K PDF) and former minister on Thursday expressed deep sorrow over the devastating cloudburst that affected Chasoti village, a route to the Machail Mata shrine in Kishtwar district.

In a statement issued here on Thursday Yaseen described the incident as the most significant loss for the affected families and the Kishtwar community in recent years, emphasizing the emotional impact on PDF leadership and members. He extended condolences to the bereaved families and prayed for the deceased while wishing for a swift recovery for the injured. Yaseen called on the Lieutenant Governor-led administration to enhance rescue and relief efforts by deploying National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams, medical personnel, and necessary equipment to the affected area. He advocated for the establishment of temporary shelters with essential supplies, including food, water, blankets, and medical aid, and urged for the prompt evacuation of those at risk. Highlighting the need for comprehensive rehabilitation, Yaseen recommended financial compensation for affected families, reconstruction of damaged homes, and restoration of livelihoods. He expressed concern over the frequency of such natural disasters and urged authorities to view this incident as a critical alert. He proposed the implementation of early warning systems in vulnerable areas, regular safety audits of pilgrimage routes, and training for local communities in emergency response. Yaseen said that his party is committed to support the people of Kishtwar during this tragic time, pledging to collaborate with the administration and relief organizations to provide necessary assistance.
