Srinagar | : Police in Handwara alongwith Geology & Mining Department on Tuesday seized 14 vehicles (12 Tippers & 2 Tractors) involved in the illegal extraction and transportation of minerals .
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that these vehicles were illegally loaded with extracted minerals and were seized within the jurisdiction of Police District Handwara. Stating that this proactive approach to curb illegal mining has been actively taken up by district Police Handwara and Geology and Mining Department for legal prosecution of those involved in such illegal activities are legally prosecuted Police in its statement further said that seizures highlight the commitment of J&K Police to act tough against these violators.
In the concluding para of its above quoted statement police appealed people to come forward with any information regarding illegal mining activities in their neighbourhood and assured complete anonymity and strict action against the violators as per law.
