Says “Institute stands with his family at this time of sorrow, grief”

Srinagar | : The National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar expressed profound sorrow over the passing of Dr. M.J. Zarabi, the former Chairman of the Board of Governors, and extended heartfelt condolences to his family. The NIT Srinagar community, led by In-Charge Director Prof. Roohi Naaz and other officials, convened for a condolence meeting at the Main Fountain Park, where a two-minute silence was observed in honor of Dr. Zarabi.

Director Prof. Binod Kumar Kanaujia praised Dr. Zarabi as a visionary leader whose tenure was characterized by strategic vision and a commitment to institutional growth. He highlighted Dr. Zarabi’s significant contributions to NIT Srinagar and the field of microelectronics in India. Prof. Roohi Naaz emphasized Dr. Zarabi’s wisdom and vision, noting that his leadership from November 2014 to November 2017 was marked by deep technical expertise and a genuine dedication to the Institute’s advancement. Dr. Zarabi’s legacy is reflected not only in the policies he implemented but also in the culture of excellence he fostered at NIT Srinagar. His ability to blend scientific precision with human understanding made a lasting impact on both faculty and students. Prof. Naaz concluded the meeting with prayers for Dr. Zarabi’s eternal peace and a commitment to uphold his mission of excellence in education and research. Dr. Zarabi, a native of Kashmir, earned his Bachelor’s degree from Jabalpur and his Master’s and Ph.D. from the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, where he received the Alumni Medal for the best thesis. His professional career was distinguished by significant contributions to India’s microelectronics sector, including leadership roles in advanced VLSI manufacturing and groundbreaking projects in Gallium Arsenide technology and MEMS. His tenure at NIT Srinagar was marked by a vision for institutional excellence, drawing on his extensive experience in the field.
