Srinagar: Awantipora Police have seized two tippers and arrested two individuals for their involvement in the illegal excavation and transportation of minerals, according to a statement released by Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar.
The operation was conducted by a police party from Police Station Awantipora. The seized vehicles, bearing registration numbers JK04B-z242 and JK22-2845, were being used to illegally transport minerals from the area. The two individuals arrested at the scene were identified as Meheraj Ahmad and Mohammad Ashraf. Following the arrests and seizure, a case was registered under FIR No. 172/2025 at Police Station Awantipora, and further investigation is underway. In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police reiterated its commitment to crack down on illegal mining activities in the region and have urged the public to provide any information they may have. The police in its statement also assured that the identities of those who come forward with information will be kept anonymous and that strict legal action will be taken against violators.
