Srinagar |: The Economic Offences Wing of Crime Branch Kashmir has apprehended two individuals, Majid Nazir Najar and Mubarak Ahmad Rather, for allegedly defrauding a complainant under the guise of investment opportunities in various deposit schemes.
The arrests were made in connection with FIR number 11/2025, which cites multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code, including fraud and forgery. The accused had promised substantial returns on investments in reputable financial institutions such as Adarsh Cooperative Society, SBI Life Insurance, and HDFC Insurance. They provided the complainant with deposit certificates that were later discovered to be counterfeit. Posing as authorized representatives of these institutions, they successfully lured the complainant into making investments. Following the registration of the case, the investigation revealed sufficient evidence linking the accused to the fraudulent activities. Both individuals are currently in custody and undergoing further questioning.
