Budgam | : Regional-cum-Facilitation Centre (RCFC), Northern Region-II, SKUAST-K Wadura, in collaboration with Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Budgam, successfully organized a training-cum-awareness programme aimed at promoting the conservation, cultivation, and utilization of medicinal plants.
The programme was held at KVK Budgam and witnessed enthusiastic participation of about 60 farmers and rural youth.
Scientists from SKUAST-K and officials from the Forest department delivered detailed lectures on the importance of medicinal plants in sustainable agriculture, their economic potential, and best practices for their cultivation and conservation.
Prof. & Head, KVK Budgam, Dr. Bilal Ahmad Lone emphasized the significance of medicinal plants in enhancing farmers income, preserving indigenous knowledge systems, and supporting ecological sustainability. He encouraged farmers to adopt medicinal plant cultivation as a supplementary enterprise and assured them of continuous technical support and guidance from KVK.
The initiative is part of a broader effort to sensitize and equip the rural farming community with the knowledge and skills needed to tap into the growing market for medicinal and aromatic plants (MAPs) by making them aware about agro techniques of important medicinal plants, their marketing and e-Charak application, processing and value addition of medical plants and conservation and sustainable use of medicinal plants.
